Six disciplines under one project lead

Most projects need more than one kind of engineering. We coordinate civil, water resources, structural, industrial and construction engineering so the work fits together before it reaches the field.

Civil and Site Development

When clients call usYou have found a site and need to know what it will support.

We turn a parcel into a buildable, permitted site, with grading, access, utilities and erosion control designed as one system.

What we do

  • Site feasibility and due diligence
  • Grading and earthwork design
  • Site access, drives and parking
  • Water and sewer service design
  • Erosion and sediment control plans
  • Permitting and agency coordination

What you receive

  • Feasibility memo
  • Site, grading and utility plans
  • Erosion and sediment control plan
  • Permit applications and responses

Water Resources

When clients call usYour site plan works until the stormwater review.

We design stormwater and drainage into the site plan from the start, so water does not become a late surprise in review.

What we do

  • Stormwater management design
  • Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling
  • Detention, retention and conveyance
  • Floodplain and flood risk analysis
  • Drainage problem investigation and repair
  • Culvert and storm sewer design

What you receive

  • Stormwater narrative and calculations
  • Drainage area maps
  • Stormwater control measure design
  • Storm sewer plans and profiles

Structural Engineering

When clients call usNew equipment is coming and no one has checked the slab.

We design new structures and modifications around the actual loads, equipment and existing conditions on your site.

What we do

  • Commercial and industrial buildings
  • Foundations and equipment pads
  • Equipment supports, platforms and pipe racks
  • Existing condition assessments
  • Repairs, modifications and retrofits
  • Review of delegated designs

What you receive

  • Structural drawings and calculations
  • Condition assessment reports
  • Repair and retrofit details
  • Shop drawing and submittal reviews

Industrial Facility Engineering

When clients call usYou need to expand without shutting down the line.

We plan expansions, equipment installations and utility upgrades around a plant that needs to keep running.

What we do

  • Expansion and site master planning
  • Site utilities and process area infrastructure
  • Equipment pads, foundations and access
  • Truck and material flow layout
  • Phasing around live operations
  • Shutdown and utility connection planning

What you receive

  • Expansion feasibility studies
  • Phasing and connection plans
  • Coordinated civil and structural packages
  • Construction sequencing support

Construction Engineering

When clients call usThe contractor has questions and the schedule cannot wait.

We stay involved after the drawings are issued, so questions are answered quickly by the engineers who know the design.

What we do

  • Constructability reviews before bid
  • RFI responses and design clarifications
  • Submittal and shop drawing review
  • Site observation and field reports
  • Change and substitution evaluation
  • Punch list and closeout support

What you receive

  • Constructability comments
  • RFI log and responses
  • Field observation reports
  • Record documents

Owner’s Engineering

When clients call usYou need technical advice from someone who works only for you.

We work for the owner to review scope, check designs and keep technical risk visible throughout the project.

What we do

  • Technical due diligence on sites and facilities
  • Scope and fee review
  • Independent design review
  • Consultant and contractor coordination
  • Value engineering and risk review
  • Capital project oversight

What you receive

  • Due diligence reports
  • Design review comments
  • Risk and options memos
  • Milestone and progress reviews
Coordination

One project lead and one coordinated set of drawings

Having several disciplines in one firm helps only when they work from the same drawings. On every project, one project lead is responsible for the interfaces between grading and drainage, between structure and equipment, and between design and construction. Each discipline’s drawings are checked against the others before anything is issued.

Engagement

Ways to work with us

Prime engineer

We lead the engineering team and coordinate every discipline, with a single point of contact for you.

Owner’s engineer

We represent the owner, reviewing designs, scope and fees and keeping technical risk in view.

Specialty consultant

We join your architect, contractor or design team for a defined civil, water, structural or field scope.

Questions

Common questions

When should we bring you in?

As early as possible. Engineering has the most value before the site layout, budget and schedule are fixed, and a feasibility review costs far less than a redesign.

Can you join a project that is already underway?

Yes. We can step in during design or construction to review drawings, resolve field questions or take on a discipline the team is missing.

Where do you work?

We are based in Rocky Mount and focus on eastern North Carolina. We also take on projects elsewhere in the state when the scope is a good fit.

What do you need from us for a proposal?

The project location, a site plan or survey if one exists, your target schedule and the decisions you need to make. That is usually enough for a first conversation and a scope and fee proposal.

Do you work for contractors as well as owners?

Yes. We work with owners, developers, contractors, architects and public agencies. On owner’s engineering assignments, we confirm there is no conflict with other roles on the same project.

Not sure what you need?

Tell us about the site and the problem.

Most projects involve more than one discipline. We will recommend a scope, or let you know if the work is outside what we do.
